Cookie policy

Two cookies remember choices you make, one keeps members signed in, and Google Analytics sets its own (after you agree, where the law asks). No advertising cookies.

A cookie is a small text file a website saves in your browser so it can remember something about you.

Golden Hint uses as few cookies as possible. We do not use advertising cookies. Our only analytics cookies are Google Analytics', explained below.

The cookies we use

We set a cookie of our own only when you make a choice that needs remembering, or when you sign in.

NameWhat it doesHow long it lasts
langRemembers the language you pickedOne year
themeRemembers whether you picked light or dark modeOne year
__Host-gh_sessionKeeps you signed in (members only)30 days, or until you sign out
_ga, _ga_LB27DXZK1VGoogle Analytics: tells visits apart so we can see how the site is usedUp to two years
ga_consentTells our server you've accepted Google Analytics (or live where no banner is needed), so it may report accepted forms to Google; removed if you choose "Reject"One year

There are no other cookies. We also keep your answer to the Google Analytics banner in your browser's storage (ga-consent), so we don't ask again.

Google Analytics

Our pages load Google Analytics to see which pages help people and where they get stuck. It measures visits, the pages you view, clicks, scrolling, downloads and form sends, and the kind of device and rough location you visit from. We send page addresses without the part after "?" and with anything that looks like an ID taken out, and we never send your name, email or what you type. Google keeps the data for 14 months.

  • In the European Economic Area, the UK or Switzerland, a banner asks first. Nothing is stored until you choose "Accept"; "Reject" keeps it off.
  • Everywhere else, Google Analytics runs when the page loads.
  • Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control: we load no Google script at all.

To change your answer to the banner, clear this site's data in your browser and the banner will ask again.

How we also count visits without cookies

We count page views on our own servers, using a code that changes every day and cannot identify you, and with Cloudflare Web Analytics, a script that sets no cookies and stores nothing in your browser. Our servers also count every request anonymously. If your browser sends a Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal, we make no visitor code and load no analytics script (Google's included); only the anonymous request count includes your visit. Our Privacy policy explains this in more detail.

Spam protection

Our forms use Cloudflare Turnstile to stop bots. Turnstile may check technical signals from your browser to do this. You can read how it works in Cloudflare's Turnstile privacy addendum (opens another site).

Removing cookies

You can delete our cookies at any time in your browser settings. The site will still work. It will just forget your language or theme choice.
